live music, food & drink…. hello, summer!

A few weeks ago, the Tribune published an article outlining some must-do things in Chicago this summer. On that list was Ravinia, the oldest outdoor music festival in the United States. Named after the ravines that surround the park along the shores of Lake Michigan, this unique music festival is only about a 10-minute drive away. It runs from June until September, and tonight just happened to be opening night with a show from The Judds. Despite the sporadic sprinkles of rain, my mom and I grabbed our table-in-a-bag, packed some munchies, bought some wine, and headed to Ravinia. I guess that means summer is finally here in Chicago! Bring.it.on.

If you head to Ravinia this summer, don’t forget to pack some of these essentials:

  1. finger food. tonight we brought cheese & crackers, chicken fingers, coleslaw, and pistachios.
  2. an umbrella… just in case it rains.
  3. plenty of your preferred drink-of-choice. tonight it was red wine.
  4. a blanket to sit on, and one to warm up with once the sun goes down.
  5. a mini picnic table. i love this table-in-a-bag from Crate & Barrel.
  6. candlelight, preferably in a hurricane holder so the wind doesn’t blow it out.
